Walking across the ground among the leaf litter, 17/05/08
Incorrectly but not surprisingly, known as the Goliath Stick Insect, this beauty is about 7 or 8 inches long. The second photo is of a female - you can just see the red under her wings. Apparently very common but are so well camoflagued you might never know they are there. She was hissing in alarm which is what attracted our attention to her, so we didn't stay around long.
