New bird species!

Last week I heard a strange 'hoinking' coming from a mahogany tree near the house which turned out to be a Channel-billed Cuckoo. I'd never seen one before so was really excited to see three flitting about in our tree. They spent about 10 minutes there before flying south to wherever they were going. Then today, I spotted a pair flying across our block in a north-westerly direction. These are wet season migrants, spending about six months breeding here in the Top End before returning north to New Guinea and Indonesia. If we're lucky we'll see some youngsters around soon.
