Rufous Whistler

Scientific Name:

Pachycephala rufiventris falcata

Audio:

Definitely one of my favourite birds, although only a very recent discovery. The Rufous Whistler is beautiful to observe and will approach closely enough to allow you a good sighting. It has a very distinctive and melodic four note song which lets you know when it's around and where to find it. They inhabit mostly open forest and woodland and seem to enjoy our orchard and garden. They tend to breed between August and February and both parents care for young.
